Trapping spam made easy
14th February 2008

I'm pleased to announce that a new feature has gone live upon the site, the spam trap.

A spam-trap is a special list of addresses which you can define which will automatically have mail addressed to them discarded.

For example I control the domain cvsrepository.org, which in the past used to receive a lot of junk mail addressed to the anonymous user - primarily because I used to advertise anonymous@cvsrepository.org as a valid login to the CVS repository.

Now, by adding "anonymous" to the spam-trap section of the domain settings I can immediately discard all mails sent to that, invalid, local user.

If you have people consistently sending mails to a particular invalid email address then this is a perfect solution for you, and a nice alternative to the manual definition of all your valid users.
